“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day” is all I used to hear form my mum as I was growing up and guess what !! It turns out that Mum was right AGAIN !!
But why ?? Why is breakfast so important ?? According to the Government Health department in Victoria, Australia – ” Breakfast breaks the overnight fasting period, replenishes your supply of glucose and provides other essential nutrients to keep your energy levels up throughout the day. ”
If you are anything like me you are busy busy busy in the morning. I used to find myself either picking from the leftovers of my children’s plates as I was clearing the table or miss this meal completely !! Not great choices I know ……
Breaking the cycle can be difficult and like anything it takes time to form a new habit. I needed quick, easy and a highly nutritious option. For me a protein shake was the key. By adding ice, water and powder to my shaker I was out the door in a flash with breakfast in hand ready for the trip to school.
Almost a year later I feel more energetic, I find I make better meal choices for the rest of the day, and I achieve more as my concentration levels are higher. So I would encourage you to listen to mum …. she always knows best.
